Keywords: "discern" "fault" "forgive" "willful"

Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

This is part four of five studies which consider how Psalm 19 offers insights into the full life in God.

Passage: Psalm 19:12-13*

12. Who can discern his errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.

13. Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then will I be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.

Questions

1. Are porn encounters less destructive if they're inadvertent rather than intended?

2. What are you "willing" to do about your struggle with porn?

Practical help

Pop! You open up an email with a benign subject and all of a sudden there's "Plenti-O-Porn" right in your face and garnished with a few images — lest you doubted the "quality" behind the link. You weren't looking for it. You weren't hoping for it. But there it is. How long did you look?

Was this a willful indulgence, or not? Let's see, I stared for less than two seconds so it's not willful. Did that change what it made you think and feel, if ever so briefly?

Or maybe you open your email and there's a message with the not so subtle subject "Free on-line sex with the Web's wildest ..." and you open it — knowing what to expect.

Different encounters, same need — a God who forgives you of your naive indiscretions and a God who forgives you of your obstinate premeditations. But He will do more than forgive. He will empower your choices. He won't change the rules, but He will change what rules! Speak today's passage to God from a willing heart.
