Passage: Mark 10:46-52*

46. And they came to Jericho. And as He was going out from Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road.

47. And when he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

48. And many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"

49. And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him here." And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage, arise! He is calling for you."

50. And casting aside his cloak, he jumped up, and came to Jesus.

51. And answering him, Jesus said, "What do you want Me to do for you?" And the blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!"

52. And Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.

Questions

1. What are some interesting characteristics we see in Bartimaeus when reading today's passage?

2. How can this story help you "see" yourself free from the bondage of porn?

Practical help

Reading this passage, what can we learn from the blind beggar Bartimaeus?
1. Someone he trusted must have told him about Jesus because he believed Jesus could help him.

2. When he decided to seek help from Jesus, he wasn't going to let personal embarrassment or judgmental peer pressure thwart his determination.

3. He didn't want to be a beggar any more. When Jesus said come, he cast aside the raiment of a beggar and now wanted to be something else.

4. He wasn't afraid to to tell Jesus what he wanted.

Why not let Bartimaeus' example become an action plan to prune porn from your life:

1. If you've trusted Christ, then trust a Christian friend who's counseling you to take that porn problem right to Jesus. (If you haven't sought the counsel of a trusted Christian friend then give it serious consideration.)

2. There's no shame in being honest with your condition. In hiding from the truth you're also hiding from help.

3. Boldly declare to yourself (and any others who know) that you don't want to be known as a "porn struggler" any more!

4. Ask Jesus for a specific — "I don't want to be a slave to lust anymore."

Now, like Bartimaeus, get ready to see the fascinating fruit of faith in faithful God.
