Passage: Luke 11:27-28*

27. While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed."

28. But He said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it."

Questions

1. Does heritage qualify you to be blessed by God?

2. What do you make of verse 28?

Practical help

There are some who'll claim that some are "born" to be blessed by God and the rest of us don't have a chance.

There are some who'll claim that your "good works" will earn you blessings from God.

The irony is that the groups are both wrong and they're both right.

Your human blood line gets you no where with God. The only blood that mattered to God was the blood of His son, Jesus. The good news is that you become a blood brother or sister with Jesus when you experience rebirth by accepting His gift of grace (click here, for more info).

But it doesn't stop there. After rebirth comes the realization that you don't "earn" blessings from God. They've been earned for you. The word of God — commands and all — becomes a book of "How to praise" and "How to honor" and "How to glorify" the one who gave you your life back. Interestingly enough, it also becomes a book on how to steer clear of porn.

True blessings aren't about someone born to do really good works — they're about someone who's given you really good words. Read and be blessed.
