Passage:
Matthew 5:27-28*
27. You have heard that it
was said, 'You shall not commit adultery';
28. but I say to you, that
everyone who looks on a woman to lust for her has
committed adultery with her already in his
heart.
Questions
1. Why is secret porn use
such a trustbuster?
2. Why is it so difficult to
rebuild trust when it has been broken?
3. What does it take for trust
to be rebuilt between two people?
Practical
help
When we break trust with
someone we love it can be very difficult to rebuild
it. In some cases the damage is too great and the
relationship never recovers fully. Porn use is a
terrible trustbuster. In order for trust to be
rebuilt, our actions, words and attitudes must
demonstrate that we can once again be considered
trustworthy. It is also essential that the other
person be willing to give us the opportunity to regain
the lost trust.
If you have broken
someones trust because of porn, you will need to
be proactive and deliberately engage them for the
purpose of rebuilding trust. This must come from a
sincere heart and not from an attempt to manipulate
them in any way.
Here are some ideas:
1. Be completely honest
about your struggle with porn.
2. Seek their
forgiveness.
3. Demonstrate a teachable
and open attitude (no more secrets).
4. Ask the other person,
What can I do to rebuild your trust in
me? or What will it take for you to
trust me again?
5. Move the computer to a
more public location.
6. Give someone else access
to the history folder on your Web
browser.
7. Be patient with others,
because rebuilding their trust in you takes time
and a new track record.
8. Look to the Lord for
forgiveness and grace to begin each day as a fresh
opportunity to rebuild trust.
