Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual
temptation.
Passages: Ephesians 5:21*
and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ
Questions
1. In this verse, Paul speaks about the quality of relationships
Christians are to sustain with each other. What word does he use to describe how we should
relate to each other?
2. What mental image comes to your mind when you picture someone
being subject to someone else?
3. How is it possible that two people (or a whole church?!) could be
in reciprocal, subject relationships?
Practical help
The quality of relationships we sustain with each other in the
church is a determining factor in our ability to stand strong in the face of sexual
temptation. Christian counselor Larry Crabb has been quoted as saying that he would be
more optimistic for the sexual purity of the man who was in an unhealthy marriage but who
had a healthy network of male friends than the man who was in a sexually satisfying
marriage, but who had few, if any, good male friends.
To be subject to one another in the fear of Christ means
that there is serving going back and forth, love being shared, accountability,
encouragement constantly at work. In short, it implies that each one is giving his
strength to support the other.
Brothers (and sisters!), if you want to stand strong in the face of
sexual temptation, get involved in the lives of your brothers (and sisters) in Christ! You
are not meant to go it alone. Standing strong is best done with arms linked
with friends under the Lordship of Christ.
