Passage: Mark 10:23-27*
23. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!"
24. The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!
25. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
26. The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?"
27. Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."
Questions
1. Do you consider yourself "rich" in terms of technology?
2. How convenient is it for you to access porn?
Practical help
In today's passage Jesus is teaching a point about the difficulty in NOT relying on something that often seems to be reliable -- in this case money for the rich.
This maxim can shed light on other correlative behaviors as well, such as problematic sexual urges and apparent solutions via porn.
Just like the rich person can always reach for money to try and solve the next problem, the internet porn struggler is always drawn to the quick fix. Take note that the common denominator here is convenient availability. Money is always there for the rich. The anonymous surf to "instant relief" is just a click away for the high tech porn struggler.
So what bit of wisdom does Jesus lay out for you here? (See also verses 17-22) If you have a knack to depend on the wrong thing, then you haven't got a chance unless you make that thing very inconvenient to use.
This may call for very dramatic steps in your particular situation. Could be you'll have to get "unplugged" for a while. Maybe just making it harder will work -- like relocating the computer or using a filtered internet service. Bottom line, though, is to make seeking solutions from God much more convenient than any alternative.
