Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual
temptation.
Passage: 1 John 2:17*
The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will
of God lives forever.
Questions
1. Has anyone ever died from sexual deprivation?
2. Is the "world" spoken of here the literal earth,
or more in the spiritual realm, e.g., evil?
3. If the path to eternal life is doing the will of God, what
does that mean in this moment?
Practical help
Life is short. Duh. If there's one thing you can always count on,
it's that things will change. Yech, that sounds like a pop song!
If it seems like you're stuck in a place of unstoppable desire, and
you just gotta do something about it, you're probably right. Just pretending it isn't
there might work for awhile, but sooner or later it will be back. John assures us that
it's not a permanent condition, but it certainly is powerful in the here-and-now.
So, whatcha gonna do? Obvious answer from scripture: do the will of
God. Immerse yourself in his word and his will, and at least for the time being, that
nagging temptation will be deflected. Pick up a good Christian book. Call a trusted
friend. Browse some more of the 3-minute studies. Call on someone in need (surely you know
of someone). And believe it when he tells you the desires will pass away. And yes, they'll
be back, but hopefully you'll remember what to do. When the world tells you that you must
be satisfied or you'll die, try to imagine the coroner's report:
Cause of death: lack of sex.
Maybe you'll die laughing instead.
