Passage: John 1:9-14*

9. There was the true light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.

10. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

11. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

12. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

13. who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Questions

Practical help

How is grace portrayed in John 1:9-14? God, the Creator, came to the world as a man. He came to the nation He had cared for and chosen for Himself. But this people rejected Him and did not receive Him or believe in Him — ultimately they crucified Him. In spite of this, He reached out to those who would receive Him, and He gave them the right to become the children of God.

The human race did not seek a relationship with God. God did the seeking. He pursued man and reached out through His Son. Man failed, but God drew him to a relationship as sons and daughters, adopting them as His children and heirs. This “grace” speaks about God and man. First it reveals us as helpless, trapped in sin. Second, it shows how willing and able God is to meet our deepest needs in Jesus Christ.

Take a look at Jesus today, and be strengthened by God’s grace toward you. Porn doesn’t cut it. It isn’t what you need.
