Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual
temptation.
Passage: Psalm 140:4, 5*
4. Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from
men of violence who plan to trip my feet.
5. Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the
cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path.
Questions
1. Can you come up with three adjectives from this scripture that
describe the man or woman who promotes pornography?
2. Is there an element of violence to some of the sexual
material that is posted on the web?
3. What is the purpose of promoters of porn?
Practical help
This psalm was written by David, and is among the many in which he
asked God for protection from men who wished to do him evil. As a man in power, he was the
target of many others who aspired to take his power from him.
The battle over pornography is a power struggle too, but of a
different sort. It ultimately is a scheme to defeat your powers of resistance and separate
you from your money, and to put your money in the hands of the wicked men and women who
benefit from it. You may be able to surf to some sites without paying a cent, but be
assured that the pride of those who foot the bill to set up those sites will not let them
rest until they have found a way to get their hooks into you. You probably have gotten
unsolicited e-mail luring you deeper into the trap. You certainly have seen links into
deeper involvement. These are the cords of the net that are hidden for you. Whatever form
they take, don't be fooled into thinking that their purpose is to satisfy your needs or to
make you happy. Those people couldn't care less.
What is the answer to the lure of internet porn? It is the first
four words of this passage: "Keep me, O Lord..." God is the only one with
infinite power to resist evil; let him be your protection.
