Passage: Colossians 2:6-7*

6. So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him,

7. rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Questions

1. Are you a pragmatist?

2. Is it hard for you to try something when you're not sure what will happen?

Practical help

Whether we want to admit it or not, most of us operate with a pragmatic approach to life and its problems. If we know something will work because it's worked before, we'll usually continue to do that same thing.

But what if we don't know for sure something will work — like "stepping out in faith"? This could be hard for headstrong pragmatists.

Paul lets us know in verse 7 above that operating in faith has at least one effect — we're strengthened!

If your pragmatic approach to dealing with a porn problem leads to the same result ("tried that, it doesn't work"), maybe it's time to switch your porn prevention methods. Take a step of faith, and let God give you some pointers through his Word. Then just put them into practice, and have faith. And if the outcome doesn't line up with your pragmatic expectation, talk it over with God, and move forward.

He promises you'll be stronger for the experience.
