Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual
temptation.
Passage: Hebrews 2:18 - 3:1*
2:18 Because he himself suffered when he was
tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
3:1 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the
heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
Questions
1. When you look for help with a problem (like porn) do you look for
someone who knows something about it or someone who has never struggled in that area?
2. When you realize you are facing a temptation, to where (or
to whom) should your thoughts run?
Practical help
It is hard to imagine Jesus, the Son of God, being faced with sexual
temptation, and suffering in it. The Bible never talks in any detail about how he dealt
with sexual temptations. However, since it tells us he was made like us "in every
way" (Hebrews 2:17) and was "tempted in every way" (Hebrews 4:16), we must
conclude that his temptations included the sexual as well as the other physical and
emotional snares that the devil set for him. And this verse indicates that his temptations
were not just casually brushed off; he knew the pain of desire unfulfilled.
In any plan to fend off the snares of web porn, there should be a Step 1. When the world
tells you to fixate on images of naked bodies, your first line of defense should be to
fixate instead on Jesus. Remember that he is more to us than just a distant, aloof
observer of our struggles. He's in it with us. He's been there, done that.
