Passage: Proverbs 10:9*

He who walks in integrity walks securely,
But he who perverts his ways will be found out.

Questions

1. How do we live securely?

2. What is the eventual result of hiding sin?

Practical help

You may be very discouraged by repeated failure when it comes to resisting temptation to lust and porn use. The emptiness and discouragement that sexual sin leaves behind may even drive you to just hide the sin instead of dealing with it openly. After all, nothing makes a person feel weaker and more ashamed than a porn habit.

The problem is that we can’t go on hiding our porn use indefinitely. Sooner or later it will be uncovered, either by being discovered in the act of viewing porn or by the loss of spiritual vitality and fruitfulness in our lives. Others closest to us will know something has changed and of course God knows it all anyway.

Secure living flows out of a clean conscience. If we have nothing to hide, we have nothing to fear. Sure, it will be difficult to bring it out into the open, but the way to walk in integrity right now is to be honest about your struggles with Web porn. Bringing it out in the open is the first step to a clean conscience — to being authentic and demonstrating integrity.

Don’t hide your sin any longer. Jesus is in the business of forgiving and graciously providing us with a new beginning. You can’t exhaust His grace and bringing a porn habit into the open will strike a defeating blow to porn's power over your life. Seek out a trusted friend and look to the Lord for grace and courage to share the truth about your struggle with porn.
