Passage: Psalm 19:7-11*
7. The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
10. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11. Moreover, by them Thy servant is warned;
In keeping them there is great reward.
Questions
1. What are some of the ways God’s word is described here?
2. What does it do for us and in us?
3. What can I do to stay continually aware of what needs to be cleansed out of my life?
Practical help
There’s no denying the power of God’s word to impact our lives in deeply significant ways. The Holy Spirit uses the word to accomplish His work in us. It’s also one of the key elements in a successful battle plan against sexual temptation and breaking free from a porn addiction. Does your soul need restoring? Do you want to become wise? Do you long for a joyful heart? Would you like to understand things more clearly? Feeding on the word of God will provide all of this for you and more. That’s why it’s more desirable than gold and sweeter than honey. It even works in us to warn us of danger when temptations come along.
Today we’re looking again at authentic living and having a clean conscience before God and others — being the same on the inside as others see us on the outside. Having a clean conscience and coming clean from sin on a regular basis means being aware of the things that need to be cleansed out of our lives. The Holy Spirit uses the word to show us the real condition of our hearts and to bring us to confess specific sins. God’s forgiveness is a sure thing!
Take some time today to allow the Lord to restore your soul through the word. Pick up your Bible to read and meditate on this Psalm instead of clicking your way into trouble with Web porn. Let God use His word to make you wise and understanding. Don’t be a fool again by giving into the lies of smut. Feed on the scriptures and your heart will rejoice.
