Passage: Judges 15:1-8*

1. But after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife * with a young goat, and said, ""I will go in to my wife in her room.'' But her father did not let him enter.

2. Her father said, ""I really thought that you hated her intensely; so I * gave her to your companion. Is not her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please let her be yours instead.''

3. Samson then said to them, ""This time I shall be blameless in regard to the Philistines when I do them harm.''

4. Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned the foxes tail to tail and put one torch in the middle between two tails.

5. When he had set fire to the torches, he released the foxes into the standing grain of the Philistines, thus burning up both the shocks and the standing grain, along with the vineyards and groves.

6. Then the Philistines said, ""Who did this?'' And they said, ""Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he took his wife and gave her to his companion.'' So the Philistines came up and * burned her and her father with fire.

7. Samson said to them, ""Since you act like this, I will surely take revenge on you, but after that I will quit.''

8. He struck them ruthlessly with a great slaughter; and he went down and lived in the cleft of the rock of Etam.

Questions

1. In yesterday's study of Samson, he acted impulsively to request a Philistine woman for a wife? What impulsive acts do you see Samson taking in Judges 15:1-8 (above)?

2. What damage did his unthinking, impulsive acts cause?

Practical help

The Bible speaks about the need to consider our actions before we take them. We are to put on our thinking caps prior to acting. Had Samson considered his actions prior to taking them, he might not have set fire to the fields of the Philistines, because it was this action that prompted the Philistines to put the woman he had loved to death!

Next time you are drawn to look at a porn site, do something first. Before you click, think! Think about your wife (if you are married) and how she would feel if she knew that you were gazing at other women's bodies. Think of your sons and daughters, and how much you value their respect, and what they would think if they knew that you were surfing the Web for porn. Think of your friends, whose respect you treasure, and what they would think of your surfing behind closed doors. Think of the Lord Jesus, who died to make you brand new, and His holy eyes looking at you as you look at smut. Thought for the day: A little thinking provides a lot of protection against pornography!
