Tips for getting the most from each day's set of passages containing these samples are available in the first study of this series (click here).

Passages*:

Matthew 6:13
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Luke 4:18-19

18. "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,

19. to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

Acts 2:21

And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'

Acts 7:34

I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.'

Romans 7:24-25, 8:1

7:24. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

7:25. Thanks be to God -- through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

8:1. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus....

Question

What is the amazing promise of Romans 8:1 above?

Practical help

Why is it easier to feel condemned than pardoned after giving in to smut?

Hard to answer. Probably has to do with guilt, shame, remorse and other complicated factors.

But while there's a place for contrition, there's no place for condemnation for folks who've been pardoned by Christ. (If you're not sure you've been pardoned, click here.)

There's a big difference between the two. Contrition is at once hopeful and assured (e.g., of forgiveness), condemnation is hopeless.

So don't confuse the two. Go ahead and feel contrite about sin. Then sing a few stanzas of Amazing Grace.

Because you've been pardoned and not condemned!
