Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Romans 8:18*

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Questions

1. Is a fight against Web porn one of your "present sufferings"?

2. How can this verse help you deal with it?

Practical help

Peruse the "Drama in Real Life" stories in "Reader's Digest," and you'll find that human-interest articles always include a critical component. On the brink of death in the forest fire/avalanche/plane crash, the action cuts away from the victims to the bigger picture. Readers see forces mobilizing for rescue. Eventually, the victims are saved and disaster is averted.

Unfortunately, believers live in a world before the cutaway. In our brief lives, we encounter many painful battles — including the one against Web porn — with little tangible reassurance of rescue. We suffer. And we die.

Yet the apostle Paul provides a cutaway to the bigger picture in Romans 8:18. "Our present sufferings," he writes, "are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." Faith asks us to see our lives from such a timeless perspective.

We're cast as heroes in impossible struggles for the fate of our souls. So before we give into temptation, let's remember that today's pain can't measure up to tomorrow's glory.
