Passage: Luke 10:25-28*

25. And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

26. And He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?"

27. And he answered and said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."

28. And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live."

Question

Do you ever find that it's easier to continue in a destructive activity (like a porn habit) by 'dumbing yourself down' to the hard question of why you continue to do it?

Practical help

Some might say that this passage is the original lawyer joke, but Jesus would say listen to me -- ignorance is not bliss, loving your God is.

The lawyer in this passage is no idiot and the vast majority of people who are mired in a struggle with a besetting sin, like a pornography habit, aren't either. What they have in common though is a temporary way to confound their God given conscience. They play stupid.

Jesus asked this lawyer a question he already knew the answer to -- "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?" (Or today He might say, "what does the Bible say?")

Today, wake up that "ignorant" conscience and tell yourself to remember that you do love God with all your heart and all your soul and all your strength and all your mind. You'll be amazed at the power you'll then have resist the next temptation to surf where you shouldn't.
