In Galatians 5:22-23, the apostle Paul lists nine "fruit of the Spirit," fruit that the Holy Spirit produces in the life of the believer. Each of these fruits — if produced — will greatly aid a believer who seeks to "stand strong." At eXXit, we believe that: The fruit of the Spirit is produced in the life of a healthy Christian, just as apples appear on a healthy apple tree. If there is any love or joy or peace in a Christian, it is ultimately the work of God. Christians can cooperate with the Spirit's desire to produce His fruit in their lives by yieldedness, faith, obedience and involvement in ministry. Question What does a porn struggler have to do to model goodness (see verse 22)?   Practical help Eventually, people will know us by our goodness. Hard to imagine for those of us stuck in Web porn. But goodness is one of the nine gifts — fruits — of the Holy Spirit, who works in the lives of Christ's followers, mired in smut or not. Doubt it? Check out Paul's assurance to the early Philippians, who probably had some doubters of their own: ...He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6* Fact is, spiritual growth and commensurate behavior changes — such as an increase in goodness — are works of God's grace, just like salvation. So if you're disgusted with your inability to "just say no" to Web porn, turn to God's ability to deliver you from the smut. Figuring out that you depend on God — not on yourself — is a good attitude adjustment when you come up against an enemy like porn.
