Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24. but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD. 25. "Behold, the days are coming," declares the LORD, "that I will punish all who are circumcised and yet uncircumcised — Questions 1. Why shouldn't a rich man boast of his riches (verse 23)?   2. In terms of falling prey to the power of temptation, what role does the availability of money play?   Practical help You see it on TV and in newspaper stories time and again — "Wealthy suspect's high priced lawyers get acquittal." It often seems like money can get you out of anything. But the truth is, money can get you into a lot more trouble than it can get you out of. Money gives the holder a false sense of immortality (you never keep it forever). With money you can buy protection, security,  medicine, mobility, some degree of anonymity and maybe even a great-looking life partner. That's a pretty attractive list until you look for what's missing. Consider the things that money can't buy: honesty, sincerity, a cure for AIDS, real friendship, genuine love, relief from guilt and — as Jeremiah says of our great God — lovingkindness, justice and righteousness. Maybe an abundance of money is making it easy for you to say that porn is just a harmless plaything that you can afford; but how do you afford it? Do you have a secret credit card that you charge smut to? Do you have so many computers that you have one sufficiently hidden and dedicated to your habit?
