2. We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.

3. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

4. For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you,

5. because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction.

Practical help

Maybe you remember a time as a kid when you were picked for special recognition or assigned to a special group because you had some exceptional qualities that set you apart. You probably felt proud and honored and possibly a bit humbled too. Along with those feelings there may have been another one that surprised you -- greater confidence. It's something interesting and empowering that happens when you've been chosen for a special purpose because you have special qualities.

In today's passage the Apostle Paul is writing to the believers in Thessalonica, but he's also writing to any and every believer. (Are you a believer? If you're not sure, click here.) He's letting you know that because you believed the gospel he preached you are now made a part of a special group -- those loved and chosen by God. If you can remember to think of yourself as being chosen by God you're going to find yourself feeling stronger and more able to face any struggle that lies before you -- yes, even porn -- with a new confidence backed by power and the Holy Spirit. If you happen to be doing battle with porn wouldn't you rather face it as the confident chosen?
