Title: NewSelf-control ----------------------- Date: 07/20/1999
Keywords: "new self” “old self" “self-control"
Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

eXXit advertises itself as a Web site designed to help you "stand strong in the face of sexual temptation." In Galatians 5:22-23, the apostle Paul lists nine "fruit of the Spirit," fruit that the Holy Spirit produces in the life of the believer. Each of these fruits — if produced — will greatly aid a believer who seeks to "stand strong."

At eXXit, we believe that:

The fruit of the Spirit is produced in the life of a healthy Christian, just as apples appear on a healthy apple tree.

If there is any love or joy or peace in a Christian, it is ultimately the work of God.

Christians can cooperate with the Spirit's desire to produce His fruit in their lives by yieldedness, faith, obedience and involvement in ministry.

We hope you enjoy and benefit from these meditations on Galatians 5! Send us any feedback. We'd love to know what you think.

Passages

Proverbs 25:28*
Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.

Ephesians 4:22-24*

22. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;

23. to be made new in the attitude of your minds;

24. and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Questions

1. How protected is a city without walls?

2. How protected are you without self-control?

3. Which self are you trying to control?

Practical help

If you've been to our site before (or just read the top of this page), then you've seen the words "to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation."

Just how do you stand strong?

Have you tried to stand strong by yourself? By you own self-control? Did it work?

The only self-control that's going to be effective in your life is one that's given to your "new" self. When you put on the new self by trusting God (click here if you haven't), he gives you a new attitude — a new way of thinking, which is based on his holiness and his righteousness. This new self is the only one that God will empower to use self-control.

Put on the new self, then try a little newself-control. You'll be standing strong before you know it!
