Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
This is the
second part in a six-part series on the
Wheel Illustration (a link to a picture of
the Wheel can be found later in this study). The Wheel
depicts how Christians can experience the full life Jesus
promised to his followers in John 10:10 (I have
come that they may have life, and have it to the
full.). For folks struggling with Internet porn,
the illustration shows one more thing: how to give the
slip to smut. This study looks at one spoke of the
wheel, the Bible.

Passages
2 Timothy 3:16*
All Scripture is
God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness
Joshua 1:8*
Do not let this Book of
the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day
and night, so that you may be careful to do
everything written in it. Then you will be
prosperous and successful.
Questions
1. What are four uses of
Scripture according to 2 Timothy 3:16?
2. Joshua 1:8 commends
meditation. How is this activity performed?
Practical
help
In the preceding study, we
reviewed a critical truth: Jesus inhabits Christians.
Because of his powerful presence, which porn habits
cannot drive off, Christians struggling with
such habits can rest assured that the opposite will
happen. Namely, Christ will drive off the habits.
See
the Wheel, Part 1.
How will he drive off the
habits? The verses highlighted above tell part of the
answer. As Christians read the Bible, they soak up
their Savior's wisdom. No wonder Paul told Timothy to
depend on the Bible for "teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness."
Joshua 1:8 tells how to get the
most from Scripture: Meditate on it. Christian
teacher Bill Gothard explains how to do
this:
1. Memorize a
Bible passage that addresses a need in your
life.
2. Visualize what the
passage is describing.
3. Personalize the
passage by thinking that it's talking about
you.
Thus, as the Wheel Illustration
points out, the Bible is a vital spoke of the
victorious Christian's life. So if smut is ruining
your day, read the Bible. In due time, Scripture will
teach, rebuke, correct and train you in righteousness.
Count on it.
