Title: Had Enough Self-control? ----------------------- Date: 07/21/1999
Keywords: "self-control"
Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

eXXit advertises itself as a Web site designed to help you "stand strong in the face of sexual temptation." In Galatians 5:22-23, the apostle Paul lists nine "fruit of the Spirit," fruit that the Holy Spirit produces in the life of the believer. Each of these fruits — if produced — will greatly aid a believer who seeks to "stand strong."

At eXXit, we believe that:

The fruit of the Spirit is produced in the life of a healthy Christian, just as apples appear on a healthy apple tree.

If there is any love or joy or peace in a Christian, it is ultimately the work of God.

Christians can cooperate with the Spirit's desire to produce His fruit in their lives by yieldedness, faith, obedience and involvement in ministry.

We hope you enjoy and benefit from these meditations on Galatians 5! Send us any feedback. We'd love to know what you think.

Passage: Acts 24:25*

As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you."

Questions

1. Why do you think Felix disliked Paul’s message?

2. Are we any more willing than Felix to hear the message of self-control?

Practical help

In a world where criminals routinely blame their upbringing — and in at least one case, what they had for lunch — for their crimes, we’re tempted to think such evasions are a product of the 20th century.

Felix, a first-century Roman governor, proves us wrong. When the apostle launched into a speech promoting self-control, Felix threw in the toga.

But are we any different? When Scripture teaches that the have the ability to resist temptation — including, I believe, pornography — we often shake our heads and say, "That’s enough for now!"

Ask God to give you the ability to resist temptation in this area, and take this as encouragement: He has already granted your request.
