to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
Proverbs 28:6*
Better a poor man whose
walk is blameless than a rich man whose ways are
perverse.
Question
Why are poor and blameless
better than rich and perverse? Is the answer obvious
or obscure?
Practical
help
This verse says what may
not be obvious. Namely, there are benefits to being
poor.
Poor folks, for example, can't
afford computers, let alone cable modems or DSL for
high-speed downloads of graphics. But don't pity such
people. With their technological poverty comes
insulation from Internet porn and other Web
addictions.
On the other hand, as Jesus
comments in the Gospel of Matthew, it's not what goes
into your heart that's troublesome, only what
sometimes comes out. Still, there's no denying the
time-honored computer axiom: garbage in, garbage
out.
So if you're tempted by Web
porn, act poor. Give up your computer, or at least
your Internet connection, if only for a few months.
Then consider whether it's worth it to wean yourself
back to computer riches.
