The phrase "near miss" is an interesting term: People use it to say the
opposite of what the words actually mean. A near miss is a hit, just like a
near hit is a miss. In Habakkuk 2:15, we encounter a biblical near miss in
the true sense of the word: The verse gives us an ancient archetype of the
problem of modern Web porn.
Apparently, Scripture condemns using alcohol as a means to expose someone's
nakedness. Now let's update the principle. What if we used money as a means
to induce people -- say, porn actors -- to strip for us? Sounds familiar.
No matter what century you're in, traffic in human nakedness is a dirty
business.
