Passage: Galatians 4:4-7*

4. But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,

5. in order that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

6. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"

7. Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

Questions

1. How has your position before God changed through trusting in Jesus?

2. How does God see you now?

3. How do you see yourself in relation to God?

Practical help

Personal struggles with sin (and maybe more so with sexual sin) cause the Christian to feel distant from God. Our perception of the truth can become distorted in these times because we experience feelings of being impure and guilty of sin. We may ask ourselves how God could continue to accept us and love us when we so easily fall back into lust or sins involving sexual fantasy. This is when we need to remember more than any other time that God’s acceptance of us is only on the basis of grace — it was never and will never be on the basis of how well we behave or how righteous we are.

The Bible teaches the foundational and life-changing truth that by God’s grace the believer has been permanently accepted as a son or daughter and welcomed by God into His family just as He accepts His own Son. You are now — this is how God sees you now — a son or daughter of the King with all His inheritance, proclaimed now to be a joint heir with Christ.
