Passage: Psalm 71:1-6*

1. In Thee, O Lord, I have taken refuge; Let me never be ashamed.

2. In Thy righteousness deliver me, and rescue me; Incline Thine ear to me, and save me.

3. Be Thou to me a rock of habitation, to which I may continually come; Thou has given commandment to save me, For Thou art my rock and my fortress.

4. Rescue me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, Out of the grasp of the wrongdoer and ruthless man,

5. For Thou art my hope; Lord God, Thou art my confidence from my youth.

6. By Thee I have been sustained from my birth; Thou art He who took me from my mother’s womb; My praise is continually of Thee.

Questions

1. How would you describe the writer’s relationship to God?

3. What evidence is there in the passage above that the writer believes he is special to God?

Practical help

Where do you hide? Is it in a darkened room behind a locked door? Have you opened your inner life to God and made Him your refuge?

When you are involved in Internet pornography, you are in the grasp of ruthless men, and you need help to be freed. God can and will do this for you, but you have to be willing to sell out to Him just like the writer of Psalm 71 did. Think back over your life and consider how God has sustained you. Now take a moment and thank Him for all He has already done on your behalf. This will begin to build your relationship with Him.

The Lord is not a magic charm you can manipulate when you have a problem. He is the one who made you and sustains your life up to this moment. Give up your hiding, and run to Him for refuge and protection.
