Practical help

Have you ever seen the branch of a grape vine exerting itself to produce fruit? Does it have to work to make grapes appear? No, it just hangs there, connected to the trunk and the roots doing what it was made to do — bear fruit! Christians are like that branch. As we abide in Christ our lives are fruitful. We can’t really do anything on our own.

“Struggle” is a term we often use to describe how things are going in our dealing with the temptations to sin — especially sexual sins like pornographic fantasy and masturbation. How much of our struggle is due to our trying to face the temptation in our own strength, with our own limited resources? Learning to abide in Christ, resting in His grace is the key. Apart from Him we can’t do anything, including dealing with sexual temptations. Apart from Him our efforts are unfruitful. The only way is to stay close to Him, like a branch connected to the vine.

Who Jesus is, is what you need.
