Passage: Proverbs 1:5-6*

5. Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance —

6. for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.

Question

What do wise folks do when they hear a new proverb (or axiom)?

Practical help

Solomon, reputed to be one of the wisest men who ever lived, had a hobby that actually enhanced this reputation: He collected proverbs — practical ideas stated in catchy ways. Example:
Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow. (Proverbs 13:11)

Whenever Solomon heard a good proverb, he added it to his collection. (The best are found in the Bible's Book of Proverbs.) The more he collected, the wiser he became.

What proverbs would porn strugglers collect?

We welcome smart, godly axioms from our readers. If we get enough, we'll consider publishing them on the eXXit site.

Want to send in a few? Make 'em snappy, like the carpenter's "Measure twice, cut once" (just make them relate to resisting porn). Submit them to helpexxit@exxit.org.

In any event, keep your ears open like Solomon. Collect catchy sayings that defy smut. In so doing, you'll be the wise person who becomes still wiser.
