A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad, But he who keeps company with harlots wastes his wealth.

Question

How does this verse relate to viewing Internet pornography?

Practical help

What’s wisdom? It’s applying your mind to guiding your life on the path that God directs you. It’s not enough just to be smart. It is possible to be a smart fool. Most fools learn their foolishness in time — assuming they do not become stubborn fools. Your pornography habit will been seen as foolish, even by you, in time. Will you allow it to wreck your life before you learn this?

Your father, or the father-figure you respect, or simply that older friend you admire, can give you a great deal of good advice. Why? Because he has more experience than you to draw upon. If you as a young person follow good advice, and the best advice is from the Bible, then you are acting wisely. Wise living results in good feelings for those who worry about you.

In contrast is the guy who keeps company with harlots. This is you if you are keeping company with porn web sites. It’s costing you money, right? To see the good stuff, you have to pay. So the truth is literal. But it goes beyond this. There are two other unspoken truths here. First, if you don’t keep company with the lewd, crude and rude, it will probably improve your long-term bottom line. And second, when you act unwisely, you hurt more than yourself. Your father or older friends will hurt for you.
