Passage: Proverbs 29:27*

An unjust man is abominable to the righteous, And he who is upright in the way is abominable to the wicked.

Question

How do justice and righteousness relate to viewing Internet pornography?

Practical help

If you are for pornography, you are against righteousness. You cannot justify surfing porn sites on the argument that it is morally pure and will make you a better person. Instead, you have to defend your actions by saying it’s no big deal, or that everyone does it, or that it is normal or natural. When you make this argument, note how you diminish the dignity of being a human being.

If you are for righteousness and justice, you must be against pornography. To move away from an out-of-control self-consuming sexual appetite is to stand for a better picture of what a human being can be. Your heart is hungry and will seek spiritual food to sustain it. You cannot feed it pornography and God’s Word at the same time and expect a healthy outcome.

Your choice will determine your friends and enemies. So here you are facing two polar-opposite life directions that call to you. Go one way and you will become smaller as you seek a few moments of self gratification. Go the other way and you will grow in stature and strength as you move toward principles and ideas that are bigger and better than you presently are. But as you change, don’t expect applause from current friends who have shared your porn behavior. Today's verse makes this point pretty clear.
