If the ancient Israelites
had one key problem, it was faulty memory. God had
delivered them from the despotic control of an
Egyptian pharaoh to freedom under divine rule. If that
werent enough, he had done it in dramatic
fashion the bloody Nile, hordes of frogs, a
plague that wiped out scores of Egyptian youth. But
the Israelites forgot about all that.
Sometimes in our struggle
against pornography, we seem much like those B.C.
believers. God has delivered us time and again from
our temptations, and we forget his power the next time
around.
The best thing to do is learn
from our predecessors. We should use some signs or
symbols that remind us of past victories. For them, it
was feasts and piles of stone. For us, it can be
significant objects by our computers or stickers on
our monitors like kill tallies on fighter
planes.
All of these methods help us
battle our main problem: forgetfulness.
