Questions

1. How difficult should it be to resist the lure of Web porn?

2. What can help us do it?

Practical help

Sometimes we expect everything to come easy: a rewarding career, a happy family and a solid Christian life. Unfortunately, Scripture appears to take the opposite view. Life, it posits, is difficult. And believers fool themselves -- and become fools -- if they think differently.

So what should we do about life’s trials, like resisting Web porn? The psalmist recommends taking an oath -- promising God you will avoid Internet smut. If you’ve already done that in your head, maybe you should write down your commitment. Paper tends to make promises more concrete, the difference between a marriage license and a common-law union.

Will the oath make obedience easier? Probably not. But we already knew that. Just keep your oath "even when it hurts."
