Passages*

Matthew 7:1-2
1. “Do not judge so that you will not be judged.

2. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.

Luke 6:37

Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.

John 3:16-17

16. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

17. “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

John 5:21-22

21. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.

22. For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

John 12:47-49

47. If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

48. He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.

49. For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given He a commandment as to what to say and what to speak

Questions

1. What is the process of judging, and what does it lead to?

2. How is saving people different than judging them?

3. According to the passages above, all spoken by Jesus, who or what will judge you after you die?

Practical help

Judging as it is used in the context above is not the same as differentiating right from wrong or good from bad or best. This is a judgment that leads to punishment or reward. Frankly, I hope you judge pornography to be both degrading and a huge waste of your time and energy. However, you should not pass judgment on yourself or others as to your spiritual standing with God. The reason is clear. The story is not over, and people who you would easily condemn may become the heroes of our faith in the near future.

There is no one alive today that God cannot change. He is that powerful. But in addition he is also very patient and will not force you to love him against your will. What kind of love would that be anyway? No, instead he chooses to wait for you to come to him. If you never do, your life will be your judge. You knew right from wrong and you were invited to become a part of God’s family. If you decline, he will accept your decision.

Maybe you view porn because you have judged God to be impotent in meeting your sexual needs. Fortunately for you, he has not already judged you, but instead has opened a door of escape both from spiritual death and sinful lusts that corrode your life.
