Passage: Mark 10:32-34*

32. And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful. And again He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him,

33. [saying,] "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and will deliver Him to the Gentiles.

34. "And they will mock Him and spit upon Him, and scourge Him, and kill [Him,] and three days later He will rise again."

Question

When it comes to understanding Jesus’ crucifixion, why is this an important passage?

Practical help

There was something about the way Jesus was walking. He was out ahead of them by himself. He wasn’t talking, and I’m sure his mood was somber. Because he was behaving strangely compared with what the disciples were used to, the passage says they were both amazed and fearful. It reminds me of seeing huge storm clouds approaching. The sky is getting darker, yet there isn’t any rain — yet. They knew they were in for trouble, but weren’t sure the exact form the trouble would take.

This passage says that he took the twelve aside, which probably indicates they were in a larger group of people. Jesus then informs them about what will shortly happen to him…and to them.

Jesus knew what he was facing, and he knew what it would cost to free you from sin — including the sin of pornography. He willingly embraced a punishment and death on our behalf because he knew that we would be eternally lost if he did not.

But he didn’t die in order to allow you to sin, but to free you from the grip of sin. If you have accepted his sacrifice on your behalf, then you have been joined together with him. Now it is a matter of giving the one who died for you the sins that sent him to the cross. As you do this you will begin to take on Christ’s character here on earth and he will then have another instrument he can use to draw other needy people to him. That is you destiny — not porn addiction.
