Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

The following is the second of five studies in Psalm 16 as it relates to resisting Web porn. Feel free to study and/or download the entire set. We welcome your feedback.

Passage: Psalm 16:1-4*

1. Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in Thee.

2. I said to the Lord, "Thou art my Lord; I have no good besides Thee."

3. As for the saints who are in the earth, they are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight.

4. The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied; I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood, nor shall I take their names upon my lips.

Questions

1. Compare the way David chose God to be his Lord in verse 2 with the way others choose a god in verse 4. What is "bartering"?

2. What does David say will happen to these people? Have you seen this to be true in your personal experience?

Practical help

Drinking blood was considered a detestable act by Old Testament Jews, and frankly it’s a pretty gross thought today. A drink offering of blood implies killing things to worship an idol. If Internet pornography is your idol, what are you killing to do it? Are your relationships with others dying?

Have you wiped out your feelings for godly pleasures in order to be stimulated by images on a computer screen? Verse 4 calls us to wake up to the fact that sorrows will be multiplied by choosing what God calls sin.

Turn to God to help you avoid porn and its sad consequences. He can and will help you stand strong because He is faithful to His Word.
