Passage: 1 Corinthians 4:5*

Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

Questions

1. What is the most embarrassing aspect of your person, something you wouldn't dare tell or show to anyone?

2. How does it feel to know that there will come a time when it is known to all?

Practical help

When we are tempted to feel judgmental toward someone else, we would do well to remember this verse. Like the accusers of the woman caught in adultery (see John 8:3-11), we should drop our stones and instead look at our own hearts. What do we keep hidden in darkness? What aspects of our person are considered when God is looking for something to praise?

When you're in the darkness gazing upon someone else's indecency in graphic images, and at some level condemning them for their lewdness, maybe you should look past the skin at the heart — your own heart in particular.
