The following is the fifth of five studies in Psalm 16 as it relates to resisting Web porn. Feel free to study and/or download the entire set. We welcome your feedback.

Passage: Psalm 16:1-11*

1. Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in Thee.

2. I said to the Lord, "Thou art my Lord; I have no good besides Thee."

3. As for the saints who are in the earth, they are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight.

4. The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied; I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood, nor shall I take their names upon my lips.

5. The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; Thou dost support my lot.

6. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.

7. I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.

8. I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

9. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will dwell securely.

10. For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to Sheol; neither wilt Thou allow Thy Holy One to see the pit.

11. Thou wilt make known to me the path of life; in Thy presence is fullness of joy; in Thy right hand there are pleasures forever.

Question

These two verses continue a list of good things for the person who trusts the Lord (see yesterday’s study). What are the benefits to trusting God found in verses 10 and 11?

Practical help

Pornography promises momentary pleasure. By contrast, the promises of God for those who trust in Him start today and go on forever. There is no way we can overstate how good He is to those who put their faith in Him.

But don’t think of His graciousness as softness. The abundant life He offers is a choice and requires that we leave behind ways of life inconsistent with His character (what would Jesus do?). This does not mean the believer will not be tempted, and it does not mean we will live perfect lives from now on without committing sins. But what is the desire of our hearts?

The Lord desires to be for you what He was for David, his refuge and protector.
