These verses describe a way of victory over impurity that has proven successful for many sincere strugglers. The psalmist gives specific, pointed, practical advice for standing firm against temptation. What is that action? Ready? Here it is:
MEMORIZE SCRIPTURE!
Now, don’t misunderstand! Rote reciting of Bible verses doesn’t guarantee victory over temptation. Scripture memory is not a good luck charm. And it is not true that a verse a day keeps the devil away.
What is undeniably true, though, is that if people like us, who struggle with porn, will allow Scripture to penetrate and permeate our hearts, we will find strength to resist.
Have you ever "hidden" the treasure of God’s Word in your heart? Take the advice of Psalm 119 and do so. Memorize verses that call you to purity or that promise God’s presence so that in the moment of temptation, you will be able to stand, with the help of God’s powerful Word.
