Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

This is part three of a nine-part series on the "Blessed" verses from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.

Passage: Matthew 5:3-11*

3. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

7. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

8. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

10. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

Question

What does it mean to be meek?

Practical help

Meekness (see verse 5 above) is one thing that rationalizers — folks who excuse away their sin — aren't famous for.

They demand, they grab — and they suffer. They miss contentment — what Jesus might have meant by the term "inherit the earth" — by a mile.

Sound like someone trapped in a porn habit? Sound like you?

If you want out of your demanding, rationalizing habits, verse five has good news: Slow down, demand less, be meek.

You'll become discriminating and patient, able to discern between God's good gifts in life and phony pleasures. Soon enough, you'll give the slip to smut.

You'll inherit the earth.
