Passage:
1 John 2:16-17*
16. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
17. And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever.
Questions
1. What three items does John mention as NOT being from the Father (i.e. - God)?
2. What is the source of all three of these items?
3. What is true about all three?
Practical
help
The shrewd investor is not necessarily the one who makes an overnight killing on Wall Street by putting money on a "dot.com". As those of us who have watched the NASDAQ know, money made that way can evaporate as quickly as September snow. The shrewd investor thinks "long-term" and seeks to make a good return over the long run.
Why, then, would you or I want to invest time, energy or money in something like Internet porn? It has the disadvantages of being sourced in an unstable environment AND is guaranteed to pass away. The "lusts of the flesh and of the eyes" is a very descriptive way to describe porn. There’s no future in it.
If you are looking for an investment sure to benefit you in this life and the next, porn is not "it." Better to invest your life in what will outlast this life - like "doing the will of God." (v. 17)
