Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
John 17:17*
"Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth."
Questions
1. As Jesus prays for His followers, He asks that God would "sanctify" them. What does He mean when He prays that prayer?
2. According to this verse, what is the means that God will use to sanctify His people?
Practical help
The word "sanctify" means "to set apart for a purpose." In Scripture, the word is actually used in several ways with a number of different nuances. In this verse, Jesus is praying that God would increasingly "set apart" those who follow Him for God’s purposes.
The necessary ingredient for this sanctification is TRUTH, and the means for accessing that TRUTH is God’s Word. Those who struggle with the anti-sanctifying phenomenon of Internet porn need to pay careful attention to John 17:17.
Jesus’ prayer is for you. Make no mistake about that. And your deliverance will come about as you learn and apply God’s truth. AND God’s truth is available to you in Scripture.
There is protection, equipment and provision for you to stand firm against sexual temptation in God’s powerful Word. Love it, learn it, and live it!
