Passage: 2 Peter 1:3*

seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

Questions

1. As you read the verse above, realize that Peter is writing to Christians. That is, to people who have placed their faith in Christ alone for salvation. Have you ever placed your faith in Christ for salvation? If you haven't, then the message of this verse isn't for you. It can be, though, if you turn in faith to Jesus now (click here to find out how)!

2. According to this verse, to what extend has God's power granted us what we need to live a godly life?

Practical help

For the last several years, the American government has typically spent more money than it takes in by taxes. That is called "deficit spending." This practice puts the government further and further into debt. The Christian is called to live a life of godly obedience. Where does he (or she) get the resources to "fund" such a lifestyle? He doesn't have to borrow or deficit spend. God has already given all the resources necessary to lead a godly life. This includes the resources necessary to resist temptation to log on to pornographic Web sites! Resisting that "urge" is not just a "pull yourself up by your bootstraps decision. It is a trust thing. God has given you the wherewithal to say "no!" to temptation. Put Him to the test and you will find that the strength to resist is available. It won't necessarily be easy — but He makes it possible.
