Welcome

strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
2 Peter 1:3-4*
3. seeing that His divine
power has granted to us everything pertaining to life
and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who
called us by His own glory and excellence.
4. For by these He has granted
to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order
that by them you might become partakers of {the}
divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is
in the world by lust.
Questions
1. God's glory and
excellence prompted Him to grant us promises (v. 3).
What kind of promises (v. 4)?
2. The purpose of these promises
is that Christians will become partakers of God's own
nature. What a thought! That is possible because of
what Peter says we have escaped (look at the end of
verse 4, above). What is it that we have
escaped?
Practical
help
These verses say two
things of note. First, they tell us that the Christian
has escaped corruption, and that is good to know! In
the most important sense, the Christian is not in the
land of the living going to the land of the dying. He
is in the land of the living going to the land of the
living! Corruption doesn't win. Life wins! Second,
these verses tell us that lust brings about
corruption! In the broadest sense, lust is longing for
(and even planning for) something or someone we have
no right to possess. That is the evil of pornography,
but it is also the evil of lust, generally. Wanting
something God doesn't intend for us to have produces
corruption. For the believer, that cycle has been
broken!
So, how nutty is it for a
Christian, who has escaped the "lust-to-corruption
cycle" to place himself right back in it by
purposefully viewing pornography, a practice that can
only succeed in revving up the lust engine from which
he has been saved!
