Keywords: "convictions" "leaders"

Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: 1 Samuel 8:7*

And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king"

Questions

1. How have modern Christians blindly followed leaders instead of God?

2. Does the problem also apply to our views of pornography?

Practical help

The Israelites asked Samuel for a king, shunning spokesmen who were in direct contact with God for leaders who muddled about as best they could.

Today's Christians commit the same error when we trust solely in others to set our convictions about difficult issues, including pornography. Instead of blindly accepting the dictates handed down by liberals ("there's nothing wrong with it") and conservatives ("you'll go to hell for it"), Christians should grapple with these issues and develop our own convictions in communion with God. This Web site will help you do that. But don't make us — or anyone — the "king" of your theology. That's God's job.
