Passage: Mark 6:47-51*
47. And when it was evening, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and He was alone on the land.
48. And seeing them straining at the oars, for the wind was against them, at about the fourth watch of the night, He came to them, walking on the sea; and He intended to pass by them.
49. But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out;
50. for they all saw Him and were frightened. But immediately He spoke with them and said to them, "Take courage; it is I, do not be afraid."
51. And He got into the boat with them, and the wind stopped; and they were greatly astonished,
Questions
1. What caused the disciples to be afraid?
2. How was their knowledge of who Jesus was changed that night?
Practical help
The sight of Jesus walking on the water really frightened the disciples. I guess they just weren't used to seeing people walk on water in those days! When they realized it was Jesus and not a ghost their fears gave way to faith. By this time He was routinely demonstrating His ability to do the miraculous. The disciples were getting a clearer picture of who Jesus was with each passing day.
Take a good look at who Jesus is. Can you imagine anything that the nearness of Jesus could not overcome? His encouragement and presence helped the disciples overcome their fear. His power and presence will help you resist sexual temptation right now. The next time you are in "deep water" with temptation to view porn remember that He knows your struggle and cares for you. If Jesus can walk on water be confident that He can help you stand strong against smut.
