Practical help

John Grisham, bestselling novelist and Sunday School teacher, would love this courtroom scene. Jesus vs. Pilate. Church vs. state. Truth vs. ... well, what is truth?

Relativism abounds in the modern world, especially regarding pornography. Despite study after study linking porn to a host of social ills, its proponents still promote it with the zeal of legal hucksters. Their rationale: Who are you to condemn this exercise of free speech?

While a smart Christian apologist would first respond with pragmatic reasons, he should also hope to reinforce an absolute standard: Web porn is harmful because it fails to conform to the moral order of God's creation. Unfortunately, believers sometimes "go relative" on this issue, seeking excuses for their own dalliances with the dark side.

Jesus offers a consistent alternative. Conform your life to him — the incarnation of truth — and you will find freedom. Absolutely.
