Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Questions 1. When the devil advances, what are we to do?   2. If we resist him, what will he do?   3. Does God reward our submission to him and our movement toward him?   Practical help James tells us that the devil cannot stand against truth and against God. Elsewhere we are told to flee the devil's schemes (1 Corinthians 6:18, 1 Corinthians 10:14, 2 Timothy 2:22). Here we're told that God honors our standing firm against the devil, as long as it is done in his strength and not in our own. Hearts of submission to God are rewarded by God's presence and the devil's absence. As you struggle with porn, pray that God will give you the humility to admit that you aren't strong enough on your own. Get up from the computer, and go wash your hands as a symbolic commitment to purity.
