to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
For the
first six days of October, our three-minute Bible
studies will key on central issues related to life in
Christ. The verses we'll look at may not explicitly
relate to the subject of sexual temptation, but they
will (hopefully) help all of us to stand firm as we
"go back to the basics."
Passage:
1 Peter 2:9*
But you are a chosen race,
a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's
own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies
of Him who has called you out of darkness into His
marvelous light.
Questions
1. Peter describes
Christians by four different phrases in this one
verse. What are those phrases? What is implied in
each?
2. What is the purpose for which
a Christian has been saved, according to this
verse?
3. What marvelous work has God
done for each and every Christian (see the end of the
verse)?
Practical
help
Christians have been
brought together to form the most important change
agent in the world today — the church.
When Christians live out their calling together, they
show off the glory of God to a watching world.
If what our world needs now is
God, then the world will get its taste of God when
believers in Jesus lead God-honoring lives. When
Christians live that way in community — in a
local church — the impact is undeniable and
unstoppable.
Christian, God has delivered you
from the darkness of a future spent separate from Him
in a place the Bible calls "hell." He has delivered
you from the darkness of a life spent in despair. He
has delivered you from the need to believe that sin
— of any kind, including porn addiction — is
necessary for your survival, joy, or
satisfaction.
Walk in the light. And make sure
that you are finding some fellow Christians to partner
with and with whom you can enjoy that light as you
shine the light of your excellent God in a dark,
God-hungry world.
