Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

This is the second in a series of studies on the Beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 5. Jesus spoke these words to a mixed group of disciples and nondisciples.

Passage: Matthew 5:4*

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

Questions

1. Over what (situations, problems, people, etc.) have you ever mourned in your life?

2. What does Jesus promise for those who mourn?

Practical help

Generally, we mourn that which we lose. The loss of a loving parent, the loss of a material treasure, the loss of a valued friend all will prompt us to mourn. It goes without saying that Jesus is envisioning a person taking his griefs to God in a trusting way. But His promise is gracious. He guarantees that the one who mourns will find God’s comfort.

Have you ever tried to envision what your life would be like if you were really and truly free of porn? Does picturing such a life bring a measure of grief? If it is true, don’t be ashamed to admit to yourself that one of the hardest parts of putting your porn addiction to death is the plain fact that you would miss it if it were gone. Yeah, there will be a sense of loss. So here is the question: Are you willing to experience the grief of a lost addiction in order to experience the comfort of God?

According to Jesus, that is the price you must be willing to pay to experience God’s comfort. It is also the price to pay to be truly blessed!
